Interpretation of the Protection Level of Vacuum Pressure switches

The Protection grade is a standard used to indicate the dust-proof and water-proof capabilities of the casing of electrical equipment. According to the standards of the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC), the IP (Ingress Protection) grade consists of two digits. The first digit represents the dust-proof grade, and the second digit represents the water-proof grade. For vacuum pressure switches, a higher protection level means that the equipment can operate stably in more severe environments, thereby extending the service life of the equipment.

In the dust-proof grade, IP5X indicates that it prevents the conductor from approaching (test conductors with a diameter of 1.0mm and a length of 100mm). Dust cannot be completely prevented from entering, but the amount and location of dust entering must not affect the normal operation of the equipment or endanger safety. IP6X indicates complete prevention of dust entry. In terms of water resistance grades, for instance, IPX4 indicates that the device can withstand water splashes, IPX5 indicates that it can withstand low-pressure water jets, and IPX6 indicates that it can withstand strong water jets, etc. Some vacuum pressure switches have a protection level of up to IP65 or even higher, which means the equipment is completely dust-proof and can withstand low-pressure water jet. They are suitable for use in industries such as industrial automation and rail transit that need to face harsh conditions such as moisture and dust.
